KIO Networks and Megaport in Mexico

Mexico is the 2nd largest IT spending market in Latin America. In March, Megaport will be there via a partnership with KIO Networks.

Today, at PTC 2022 in Hawaii, we’re very excited to announce that Megaport plans to expand to Mexico via a partnership with the country’s largest data centre operator KIO Networks. Customers are expected to be able to access Megaport’s services from KIO’s Mexico City and Queretaro data centres as early as March 2022. Businesses will be able to connect to Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud, IBM Cloud, and other leading cloud providers in Mexico.

Cloud growth in Mexico

According to IDC, in terms of cloud adoption, Mexico is the second largest market in Latin America, with one of the fastest growing IT markets in the region. Thirty-five percent of IT spend in Latin America is cloud-related, and according to IDC’s Latin America IT Investment Trends 2021 report, 39% of organisations plan to invest in the cloud.

The State of the Cloud in Mexico

Meanwhile, our major cloud partners Microsoft, AWS, and Oracle Cloud have all announced plans for new cloud regions in Mexico in the past year. Microsoft plans to invest $1.1 billion over the next five years to help the country’s major industries accelerate digital transformation. AWS opened two edge locations in Queretaro that the company claims will provide “as much as a 30% reduction in p90 latency measures.” Oracle Cloud announced that it will start operating a data centre in Queretaro this year.

KIO Networks Data Centres

We believe KIO Networks is a perfect partner for our expansion into Mexico. As the leading data centre operator in Latin America, KIO Networks operates with 40 data centres across Mexico, Guatemala, Panama, Dominican Republic, and Spain, as well as 11 edge facilities in Mexico. Inside KIO Networks data centres, Megaport’s services will be available for Mexico-based businesses looking to connect to the leading hyperscalers for hybrid cloud and multicloud as part of the ongoing shift to cloud-centric infrastructure and operations to support digital transformation initiatives. Global businesses will also be able to connect into the major clouds in Mexico and extend the edge of their networks.

Connecting North America and beyond

With Megaport’s expansion into Mexico, we now serve all three countries in North America, including the United States and Canada. Mexico is also our first country in the Latin America market and the 24th nation we’re serving.

We’re committed to continued expansion to serve the needs of our customers and to meet the increasing demand for cloud connectivity around the world.
